Spotlight On the Pullman High School Reunion,
Class of 1950 through Class of 1959
Designed for alumni
to "relive" those high school years of the "nifty fifties"
(classes 1950 through 1959), this truly nostalgic three-day reunion was
held in the original high school gym and auditorium in Pullman, Washington.
The opening evening
event was a basketball game teaming the alumni from the odd class years
to play against the even class years, with former coaches invited back
to coach the 60 to 70 year-old players! Former class cheerleaders rallied
the crowd of local residents and alumni supporters; even the former band
director, 90+ year-old Dana Cleveland, was there to lead pep band alumni
in a rousing display of school spirit.
The next evening brought
another walk down memory lane with a formal banquet followed by a mock
school assembly in the auditorium where reunited members of school singing
groups performed. The evening ended happily in the gym at the "Senior
Citizen Prom", with dancing to 50's music.
In between the two
evening events, reunion attendees had the opportunity to revisit the community
of their youth and see all the changes via a touring school bus. Alumni
also reconnected on the University golf course (Pullman, WA is the home
of Washington State University), and individual classes held their own
reunions over private lunches at local restaurants.
Reunion organizer
Sue Druffel, who shared this remarkable reunion story with us, said, "The
camaraderie among the attendees was unbelievable - alumni enjoyed connecting
with people from other classes, as well as their own. Everyone was thrilled
to be there, and stayed throughout all the activities in spite of the
100 degree weather and lack of air conditioning at the school facilities."
According to Sue,
alumni greatly appreciated the weekly email updates on reunions plans
and attendee lists. And the reunion memory book -- filled with 50's trivia,
photos of those glory days, and each alumnus' high school annual picture
with current address -- was too successful, as
they were about 100 books short of demand!
"Attendees were
blown away with the events and activities -- they are begging for a repeat
reunion", continued Sue Druffel. "Reunion Planner software is
a REAL PLUS in making a reunion like this run smoothly."
